Supportive Housing

Supportive Housing provides rental-subsidy payments for low-income households. Some rental assistance is specifically designated for individuals who suffer from severe mental illness, substance abuse, and/or AIDS. These individuals must currently be in treatment with a partner agency for one of the three diagnoses.

Counties served
Allen, Elkhart, DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, and Whitley.

Housing voucher
The voucher covers a portion of the rent, and the tenant is expected to pay the balance, if applicable. A tenant’s share is an affordable percentage of his or her income and generally calculated to be between 30 to 40 percent of the tenant’s monthly adjusted gross income for rent and utilities.

Specifically designated assistance eligibility
Clients must be HUD-defined homeless and have a physician-diagnosed condition, including serious mental illness, substance abuse issues, or HIV-positive. Clients must remain compliant with PSH requirements, and their referring agencies case plan to remain eligible for housing assistance.
