Brightpoint Recognizes Community Champions with Awards

Fort Wayne, IN – Earlier this year, Brightpoint’s board of directors created a Community Impact Champion award program to publicly recognize the efforts of others in the community. The awards were designed to show appreciation to individuals and institutions that advocate for and support Brightpoint’s mission to help communities, families, and individuals remove the causes and conditions of poverty.

To be eligible for a Community Impact Champion Award, an elected official, government unit, private individual or public/private organization must have demonstrated support for any of Brightpoint’s three core focus areas during the previous year. These areas are: Family Stability and Self-Sufficiency; Child and Youth Development; and Community Investment.

The honorees for this year’s Community Impact Champion awards are:

Senator Dennis Kruse – for being a long-time friend and supporter of Brightpoint and its work. Most notably, Senator Kruse was a key supporter of 2-1-1, a crucial tool for social services, and has been vital in the fight against the expansion of payday lending.

Mayor Richard Hickman, Angola City Council, and Steuben County Economic Development Corporation – for their support of Enterprise Pointe. The mayor, city council, and economic development corporation in Angola embraced the project and provided an excellent example for local support of affordable housing development.

Representative Martin Carbaugh – for his role in ensuring that predatory lending did not expand in Indiana over the past year.

Brightpoint President/CEO Steve Hoffman delivered the awards to the honorees in individual presentations over the past month.
