The Bright Future award honors individuals who have had success at removing the causes and conditions of poverty in their own lives by using the programs and services available through Brightpoint. This award recognizes that attitude can make all the difference. And that – no matter what assistance is available – it can take considerable effort to move from where you are towards a brighter future. Latanya Guinn received this award in 2016.
Latanya Guinn and her five children recently moved to Fort Wayne from Dover, Delaware. After staying with friends and family for a while, and then living in a motel, she ended up in a local homeless shelter. While there she was connected to Brightpoint and received housing assistance through the Family Development program. Having her housing taken care of allowed her to focus on other things like finding a job and creating a budget so she could save money.
